Maxine Scringer-Wilkes

I’m a registered nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant based in Calgary, Alberta. For over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside families through some of their most vulnerable and meaningful moments—supporting them with feeding, bonding, and navigating new parenthood.

My background includes a Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing from the University of Calgary, with a focus on maternal and child health. I spent many years in public health, visiting families at home after hospital discharge, which is often when feeding challenges first emerge. That’s where my passion for lactation support took root.

Since 2016, I’ve worked as a lactation consultant in a large children’s hospital, helping families in complex care situations—especially those with premature or medically fragile babies in the NICU. I also teach lactation education across Alberta, guide new consultants-in-training, and contribute to hospital policies that support breastfeeding, infant feeding, and breastmilk handling.

I have volunteered at the local, provincial, national and international levels advocating for breastfeeding. In 2021 I was elected to the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) Board. I accepted the role of President of the Board in 2024-2026 where I help represent lactation professionals on the global stage.

I founded Feed and Thrive to offer care that’s personal, non-judgmental, and rooted in both science and experience. Whether you’re preparing to breastfeed for the first time or navigating ongoing challenges, I’m here to help you build confidence and find what works best for you and your baby.
